I am a singer/songwriter
from Southern California although I started later in life. In
2003 I was touched by a series of tragedies (the loss of my father,
sister and dog) all within a very short period. Wanting to
spend time with my sister while she was fighting cancer, I used a
sentimental song to my father as an excuse to involve my sister and
then turned it into my first album.
I sing an odd combination
of folk, jazz and the blues that was originally geared towards
children and family values. My music runs all across the
board. As unusual as it sounds I am Jewish, but my music can
be heard on Christian radio.
I got my first break in 2004 when I was given the
opportunity to do one of my songs as a comedy schtick on Jimmy
Kimmel Live. I did a number from my album, "My Best Friend," a
capella while holding a stunt dog in my hands. It was written
for my dog, my son and best friend, Brandy Alexander O'Brenner, a
wonderful, loyal and bright red Irish Setter.
Since then I have gone onto
write and record several other songs. I am working on a second
album as we speak. I have also performed a number of times.
It is interesting how being on a national television opens doors for
you. When I submit things to people they actually listen to
them.
I have been asked by quite
a few people if I wrote "Deal or No Deal Now" as a gimmick to
get onto the show. I wrote it to have fun. Most of my
songs are inspired by a word, a daydream or just a voice from the
blue. The truth is that I was sitting around one afternoon
bored and the words "Deal or No Deal Now" suddenly popped into my
head. Then it became a song and eventually a music video.
It is actually the first, full production music video I have done.
Everything else is just live concert style footage.
To answer the question
though, I have not submitted an application to the show nor have we
spoken. They do know about the video and the song. I sent them a copy
to pass around the office and have a bit of fun with. I am
sure they had a chuck and I will ask them about it some day.
I started writing music
because I was sad and wanted to use it to bring my family together
in difficult times. Today I write music because I am happy.
If you listen to my later work, there is a different flavor to it
which truly reflects my joy for life. When I sat down in the
studio with my producer to discuss the arrangement, I told him that
I wanted the song to be "Rip Roaring." I think it is.
If you want to know more
about me, just ask. I put a section in the forum to ask me
questions. If you want to hear more of my music, check out my
album site. There is a link below and on the links page.
In the meantime, enjoy.
I wrote the song so we could all laugh a little together. I
still enjoy hearing it.
